The basic aim of the Sector is to study all forms of violence against and encroachments on basic human rights and fundamental freedoms, committed against the Slovene nation and the members of other ethnic communities in Slovenia during the respective periods of three totalitarian systems: Fascism, Nazism, and Communism.
Specific tasks of the Sector for Redressing of Injustices and for National Reconciliation are:
• becoming informed about the manner of addressing violence against and encroachments on basic human rights and fundamental freedoms by the totalitarian communist regimes of East European countries;
• implementation of the Redressing of Injustices Act;
• preparing expert opinions for the Ministry of Justice on individual issues related to the implementation of injustice redressing procedures;
• addressing all forms of violence against Slovenians and members of other ethnic groups during the 1941-1945 war and occupation which have not yet been dealt with and which were committed by the Fascist and Nazi totalitarian systems;
• addressing all forms violence, which have not yet been investigated and dealt with, committed in the civil war during the 1942-1945 period by the counterrevolutionary side; addressing all to date unreported forms of violence committed during the 1941-1945 period by members of the National Liberation Movement and the Communist revolution;
• addressing all forms of violence against and encroachments on basic human rights and fundamental freedoms committed by the communist totalitarian regime in Slovenia during the 1945-1990 period;
• collecting, studying, and publishing of documents and testimonies on violence against and encroachments on basic human rights and fundamental freedoms, committed in Slovenia during the 1941-1990 period against Slovenians and members of other ethnic communities by the Fascist, Nazi, and Communist regimes;
• preparation of a database on all persons on the territory of Slovenia who were victims of the Fascist, Nazi, and Communist totalitarian regimes during the 1941-1990 period;
• organising conferences and round tables of historians, lawyers, and other experts in the area of sociology on the addressed issues;
• publishing articles, treatises, and studies.
